TOWARDS TWIN TRANSFORMATIONS AND SPACES â Convoluted Conversations on the Green and Digital Futures of Work
This publication is a co-created compilation of various conversations concerning our possibilities and pathways towards futures of work. A series of interviews conducted so far within the T-Winning Spaces 2035 project have been documented here to give food for thinking and discussions concerning transformations of work and spaces.
The questions of the interviews were tailor-made to address the expertise of each interviewee, while the core of the interviews touches upon the exuberant topic of futures of work in its all dimensions as well as the issues of forward-looking thinking and action. Within the interviews we also addressed the topics of creeping crises and paradoxes as regards futures of work.
Altogether eight interviews were made, many of them during the International Conference organized by Finland Futures Research Centre in Turku in June 2023, plus some interviews conducted after that. The interviews are documented here as entities for readers to grasp the whole interviewing contexts, where-from thematic analyses will follow in the next phases of the project to provide narratives of future work and workspaces
Flourishing Urban Futures to Overcome Polycrises â Roadmap for Resilience 2050
This report âFlourishing Urban Futures to Overcome Polycrises â Roadmap for Resilience 2050â is published as the result of two Millennium Project Special Sessions, held at the annual FFRC Futures Conference in Turku, Finland, as interactive Futures Cliniques. The results for the two MP Special Sessions â 2022 and 2023 â are here combined to supply the reader with a continuum of reflections of urban resilience on which the overall results are based. Accordingly, the nature of the report is illustrative documentation of a methodological experiment for participatory cognitive crisis management within the RESCUE project.
Developing resilient and smart cities have become increasingly important considerations for the future. The rapid development of AI will also undoubtedly influence this development in significant, yet to be determined, ways. The way in which AI will be regulated is under scrutiny and will determine its effectiveness, scope and ramifications, also in the field of urban planning.
Resilient and smart cities will be influential in the future well-being of its citizens. Not only that, but the development of not one but two or more crises â polycrises â will likely become more prevalent in societies of the future. How could these cities look like, what services could be offered, how would these cities deal with polycrises, and what policies are needed, and which roadmap is adapted? These questions have been asked in the Millennium Project Special Sessions. Finding ways to secure resilient development of these cities for the future were the aim of the Special Sessions. The Futures Cliniques consisted of presentations and small group working. In the 2023 session, five groups addressed five different crises and even added another crisis to the one given to them for elaboration, to demonstrate immersion in a polycrisis. The insights provided by this report are intended to help give momentum to the rise of resilient, inclusive, and eco-smart cities of the future
Tuloksena syntyi valikoima eri suuntiin johtavia tulevaisuuspolkuja. YhdistelemÀllÀ eri muutostekijöiden ja ilmiöiden mahdollisia kehityssuuntia voidaan pohtia, mikÀ olisi mahdollista, todennÀköistÀ ja toivottavaa. Raportissa esitetty tulevaisuustieto on jÀtetty tarkoituksella mahdollisimman avoimeksi, jotta se antaisi lukijoille sytykkeen tunnistaa uusia vaihtoehtoja ja työstÀÀ ajatuksia eteenpÀin

Financial supply chain management and trade credit: A descriptive research on trade credit in Finland between 2006 and 2016
The purpose of this research is to increase understanding of the basic principles of financial supply chain management and trade credit by producing a descriptive research on the use of trade credit in Finland. Trade credit is considered a significant source or short-term financing and it is a common component of financial transactions between companies. Trade credit has traditionally been studied from a single-company perspective, but it has received growing attention in the field of operations and supply chain management, as the need to increase understanding of trade credit from a supply chain perspective has been identified.
From a methodological standpoint, this research assumes a positivist approach, as the objective is to find generalizable knowledge through causal explanation of occurrences between observable phenomena. Data used in this quantitative research is based on the survey data that has been collected for the Finland State of Logistics Surveys during the years 2006-2016. The research provides a macro-level view of trade credit, as the sample data is presented in a descriptive manner and has been categorized by the determinants to compare the trade credit variables. The research conducted in this thesis provides also further information regarding the use of trade credit in different supply chain tiers, by providing an analysis of the distributions and answering the research question on what the differences and similarities in the use of trade credit in different supply chain tiers are. The results suggest that companies in the downstream of the supply chain were able to operate with shorter days-sales-outstanding periods on average.
The results also indicate that when companies extend trade credit to their customers, they also demand extensions from their suppliers in their effort to balance their trade receivables and trade payables. In addition, the results of this research imply that the level of international sales and purchases is a determinant for the use of trade credit, as companies with a larger share of international sales have on average longer days-sales-outstanding periods. The same effect is present when the share of international purchases and the average dayssales-payables length are compared, as for companies with a higher share of international purchases the average days-sales-payables length was also longer
âNeutrality: A really dead concept?â A reprise
This article approaches âneutralityâ as an essentially contested concept and traces its meaning and purpose over centuries-long historical timelines and situated political, societal and security contexts. It distinguishes neutrality from other concepts such as âneutralizationâ ânon-belligerencyâ, ânon-alignmentâ, âmilitary non-alignmentâ, âmilitary neutralityâ and ânon-alliedâ. The article explains the politics of defining neutrality in the current European political and legal landscape and in the context of shifting definitions and practices of war, peace, security and state sovereignty. This episteme-based analysis focuses on changes to neutrality in accordance with the rise and fall of particular empires and international actors over time, and changes to its status linked to the development and reification of particular meta-theoretically-based subfields of International Relations and Political Science, setting the background to this special issue of Cooperation and Conflict. A renewed emphasis on the normative aspects of neutrality (i.e. the role of domestic values, politics, preferences, history and mass publics in foreign policy formulation) is achieved by employing a range of perspectives, characterized by increased pluralism in levels of analysis and theoretical approaches. Through this pluralism, authors engage with (1) the strategic and normative drivers underpinning the norm of neutrality, (2) the potential for neutrals to serve as norm entrepreneurs in the field of peace promotion, (3) the tenuous legal status of elitesâ quasi-neutral foreign policy constructions underpinned by tensions between discourses and practices and (4) the discursive strategies underpinning the move from neutral statesâ traditional forms of neutrality to what is termed âpost-neutralityâ in the current politico-legal context
